The Humber Bridge, located near Hull, East Yorkshire, United Kingdom opened in June 1981. For 16 years it was the longest single-span suspension bridge in the world, with a centre span of more than 1.4 kilometres (nearly 1 mile). The bridge provides a social and economic link between the English counties of East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire, helping dramatically reduce the time taken to travel between the north and south banks of the River Humber.
